Thomas Spoerndle Frik - Shuhn (July 7 - 18) New York City
Frik-Shuhn, a phonetic spelling of "friction," is a concept that frames the productive tensions created through the interaction of color, form, pattern, and material.
New York Art Culture and Current Arts Foundation are pleased to present Frik-Shuhn, an exhibition of new paintings by New York City–based artist Thomas Spoerndle. The exhibition explores the dynamic relationships between color, shape, pattern, and perception through the traditions of Geometric Abstraction, Post-Painterly Abstraction, and Op Art. Employing geometric forms and primary colors, Spoerndle constructs vibrant pictorial spaces that oscillate between order and movement while investigating painting's material qualities, including flatness, transparency, opacity, and layered color.
