Thomas Spoerndle

Thomas Spoerndle is a New York–based painter from northeastern Ohio. He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and received his MFA from Hunter College.

Thomas creates geometric abstractions using primary colors, repetition, syncopation, and calculated disruptions. Drawing from his experience with drumming and DJing, he describes his approach simply: “There’s structure, but also accents, deviations—moments where things shift. That’s something I bring into painting.”

Known as a “slow-burn artist,” Thomas transforms basic shapes and limited visual systems into complex, unexpected compositions.
