WILLIAM GEORGE STASOS
William Stamos has been painting and drawing for as long as he can remember. As a child attending church services, he was mesmerized by statues, paintings, and icons, seen through the haze of burning incense. In elementary school, he was inspired and deeply moved by an art appreciation program which introduced him to the study of art-making and art history. His continued interest in both science and spirituality informs his work. William graduated with a BFA from Penn State University. His work is included in various public and private collections.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My process of art making is intuitive, spontaneous, and trance-like; while working, I go through a continuous cycle of losing myself and finding myself. Journey and destination become one and the same. Rather than working toward a predetermined outcome, my process demands continuous exploration. I push each composition through successive transformations, concluding only when the essence is revealed.
My belief is that art has the power to transform both the artist and the viewer, through a transcendental alchemy, towards a heightened awareness of the universe, and our place in it - a cosmic connection which gives our lives added depth and meaning.
