Annie Zhang
I am a recent NYU graduate with a BA in Data Science, balancing an analytical background with a lifelong dedication to music and art. I grew up playing classical piano competitively since the age of five and continue to maintain an active performance practice today. I have taught piano for children and regularly engage with local music and arts spaces across the city, most recently performing at Blair Greene's (@BlairBearmusic on IG) piano showcase at Gambit Works Gallery in Midtown in June of this year. Grounded in both technical precision and creative expression, my work at the keyboard focuses on performance, atmosphere, and the intersection of music with visual and narrative art.
Artist Statement
“My relationship with the piano is grounded in both structure and story. Having trained classically alongside my background in mathematics, I’ve always been drawn to the balance between strict form and emotional expression. I am particularly interested in how music creates atmosphere and shapes a room. Music, much like literature and visual art, is a medium for preserving quiet moments, tension, and narrative.
Whether working through complex classical compositions or exploring more atmospheric, quiet pieces, my goal is always to create an intentional, focused experience for the listener. I view performance as a shared space where discipline meets vulnerability, and I am constantly inspired by how music can interact with and elevate other creative disciplines, from literature to the visual arts.”
